Martin Hopkins '09

Bio

• Graduated from St Rita in 2009 and played football for 4 years under Head Coach Todd Kuska.

• Varsity Football member for 3 years, starting linebacker for 2 years (2007-08) and co-captain
senior year (2008).

• Acolades include All-Catholic League 2007 & 2008, Chicago Catholic League Defensive MVP 2008, CCL Defensive Player of the Year 2008, and multiple All-State selections.

• Recruited by multiple Universities and Attended University of Iowa on a football scholarship.
Coached by Kirk Ferentz.

• Earned Bachelor’s Degree in Entrepreneurial Management in 2013 and a Master’s Degree in
Sports & Recreation Management in 2018, both from the University of Iowa.

• A career ending injury while playing at Iowa started his coaching career. He began as a Student Assistant at Iowa (2013-14) and a quality control assistant (2015). From 2016-2020 Hopkins
coached different positions including defensive backs, linebackers, tight ends, and offensive line,
and special teams.

• Was named the 23 rd Head Football Coach at St Rita on September 22, 2022 upon the end of the
2022 season when Todd Kuska announced his retirement.

• In his three seasons at St Rita, he has a 26-13 record with 1 Prep Bowl Championship, 1
CCL/ESCC Conference Championship, and 2 State Semi-Final appearances, and 1 State Final appearance.

• His 3 St Rita teams have qualified for the Illinois State Playoffs all 3 years.
